Chick Charms® Fringed Frosting Hens & Chicks forms tiny green rosettes wrapped in dense white filaments from center to edge. Sempervivum arachnoideum subsp. tomentosum ‘Fringed Frosting’ stays under 3 inches tall, with individual rosettes measuring about 3/4 inch and mature clumps spreading 4 to 6 inches. A faint rosy cast may develop through the foliage, followed by a light purple flush in spring. The fine webbing and compact rosette pattern are especially easy to appreciate near dark gravel.

Short stolons carry numerous chicks close to the parent plant, creating a neat mound rather than a loose, wandering colony. The white fibers are a natural part of the foliage and help reduce moisture loss around the rosettes. Mature hens may produce pink flowers before completing their life cycle, while established offsets remain to continue the clump. Use it in narrow rock-wall pockets, shallow troughs, waterwise borders, or between stepping stones where larger succulents would cover its detailed form.

Grow Chick Charms® Fringed Frosting Hens & Chicks in full sun or filtered partial sun; afternoon shade is useful when temperatures regularly rise above 80°F. Plant it in lean, gritty soil containing sand, gravel, or a sharply drained succulent mix. It accepts a range of soil pH levels.

Water newly planted rosettes about once a week during active spring and summer growth, allowing the soil to dry before watering again. Established clumps need little irrigation, and leaves that lose firmness provide a better watering cue than a fixed schedule. Skip routine garden fertilizer because rich soil and excess nitrogen can produce loose green growth with less seasonal character.

Remove a flowered hen after the rosette has dried, leaving the surrounding chicks in place to close the opening. Small offsets can be detached and replanted once they have begun forming roots. During winter, snow cover is usually harmless, but protect outdoor containers from heavy winter rainfall by moving them beneath an overhang while keeping them exposed to normal cold temperatures. Standing water and prolonged cold rain can cause crown or root rot.

Space plants 4 to 6 inches apart for a dense mat, or 6 to 8 inches apart when each cobwebbed mound should remain distinct. One plant fits comfortably in a shallow 6-inch pot, while a bowl 10 to 12 inches wide gives its many offsets room to multiply. Select a frost-resistant container with an open drainage hole, use a coarse succulent medium, and water only after the mix has dried.
