The World’s first gold foliage sempervivum, ‘Gold Nugget’ has extreme vigor and is hardy in zones 3-9. Eye-catching gold color with dark pink edges is exclusive to the Chick Charms® program. Sempervivum are also technically evergreen, meaning the leaves do not fall off during winter months. This customer favorite was awarded Best New Perennial for 2019 at the IPM Show in Essen, Germany!

These drought tolerant perennials thrive in poor soil conditions such as sandy and low nutrients. Plant these in rock gardens, as ground covers, in retaining walls, or in patio planters. Hens and chicks do well in full sun or partial shade, so be sure these get at least 5 hours of direct sunlight a day. In general, the more sunlight the better as it actually helps bring out the color in the plant the more sunlight it gets. In the summer, these bloom with pink flowers.

Chick Charms Gold Nugget Care

Be sure to plant in well-drained soil. That is the most important factor when trying to grow Sempervivum. Watering is not required once established except during periods of drought. Immediately after transplanting or planting, water generously. You may also separate hens and chicks to create new plants. In order to do that, divide the plants anytime during the spring/summer growing season.

    Gold Nugget Review

Posted by Cali dad on Apr 22nd 2020

I bought these last summer and planted them in my retaining rock wall. I have to say, this hens and chicks is by far the coolest looking one I've ever seen. It is a true bright orange that really stands out! Its also already starting to spread, so I get free plants that way! Very happy with my purchase, and more specifically this plant!

I'm terrible at keeping plants alive, so thought I'd give this a try based on a recommendation from a friend. this one looked pretty cool and way different than the other hens and chicks.

    Gold Nugget

Posted by Martha Barron on Jun 12th 2019

The plant was flopping around in its planter, exposed roots... I planted it with the others I had ordered, and it promptly died. How disappointing. I also noticed the other two plants were in very wet soil.

can spot these from across the yard!

    Posted by reader123 on Apr 26th 2019

I planted these on a retaining wall last summer, and the plants were immediately one of my favorite plants in the entire yard! My neighbors even complimented us on how great they look! I've never seen plants like this before. You would think they were either painted or fake. haha I'm very glad I bought these, and you can't beat the price! I'm planning on buying other colors this year!
