The is a versatile and picturesque aquatic plant with small round or oval shaped light green leaves. Its soft, delicate texture makes a wonderful forefront plant. Christmas Moss is a great oxygenator. It’s a beautiful addition to any aquarium in the home or office. Although Christmas Moss does not produce any flowers, the leaves are attractive and provide cover for fish. It’s very easy to grow and maintain. This plant is a native of tropical areas of Asia and found throughout Thailand, India, Japan, and the Philippines. Christmas Moss is commonly referred to as Brazilian Willow Moss.
Best Locations For Growing Christmas Moss
This versatile little plant can technically be placed anywhere in an aquarium and thrive. It does really well when planted in the bottom, back, or side of a tank to create a carpet or wall-like appearance. This plant prefers a pH range of 5 - 7.5, and water temperatures from 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit. It enjoys cool flowing freshwater. These plants do well as long as they are not exposed to very high temperatures or dark lighting. This hardy little plant even does well in acidic conditions.
Christmas Moss Care
This plant, with its round or oval-shaped leaves, offers stunning motion and movement in the circulation of aquarium water. This plant grows really well in medium light conditions. Too much light may encourage algae growth. Christmas Moss should be grown in the open as opposed to being placed under the leaves and stems of larger plants. This plant is easily propagated by dividing the primary plant into several smaller pieces.

As an aquatic plant, Christmas Moss does not require any additional watering.
Fertilizing Christmas Moss
As long as the plant isn’t showing any signs of obvious deficiency, it should not require continuous fertilizing. However, to get it established and growing, any good aquarium plant fertilizer will suffice. Christmas Moss draws nutrients from the water in the aquarium as it returns oxygen to the water.
