Growing Zones
Deep purple color is the hallmark of salvia plants, and Color Spires 'Indiglo Girl' Salvia is one of the darkest colors in an eye-catching summer bloomer. In late spring or early summer, the flower stalks begin to grow above the fragrant green foliage, and they are covered in tiny purple blooms through early summer. Growing to less than 2 feet high, Indiglo Girl is a perfect plant to border a garden bed or container.
Salvias are among the most diverse plants. Color Spires 'Indiglo Girl' Salvia grows in most climates (zones 3 through 8) and can handle periods of drought. They're also salt tolerant and resist deer and rabbit damage. The earthy fragrance of the flowers and leaves add an extra sensory feature to nearly any landscape. The plants also attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Color Spires Indiglo Girl Salvia Care
Plant Color Spires 'Indiglo Girl' Salvia in full sun. The plants can grow in nearly any type of soil. Although some dry spells won't hurt salvia, it will bloom better with regular watering. Cut back faded flower spikes in summer for a possible second bloom or cut flowers for indoor arrangements. Other than that, salvias need little care. The leaves drop in winter but begin growing back at the base of the plant in spring. Just remove the remaining dead branches.
Color Spires Indiglo Girl Salvia Spacing
Plant a large group of Color Spires 'Indiglo Girl' Salvia for a bright purple summer groundcover. Space the plants 20 to 22 inches apart from center to center to give them room to grow and have air circulation.
