Salvias are among the most versatile perennials for the landscape and Color Spires Snow Kiss Salvia is a new hybrid of the well-loved native. Grow it for the spikes of pretty white, tubular flowers kissed on the tips with pink. Or add it to a container or border to enjoy the fragrant flowers and foliage. You also might want several of these plants because they attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Of course, there is the easy care that salvias thrive on and their resistance to both deer and rabbits. With so many reasons to grow this salvia, the only decision left is how many. One of its most effective uses in the landscape is planting in drifts. Alternate a mass, row, or section of the 20-inch high Color Spires Snow Kiss Salvia with a favorite purple or red salvia for a rainbow of color in spring and summer. This salvia is a perennial in zones 3 through 8.
Color Spires® Snow Kiss Salvia Care
Plant your salvia where it can enjoy full sun, at least 6 hours of exposure a day. Salvias can grow in nearly any type of soil. Although the mature plant can survive periods of drought, it will flower best with average, consistent watering. Water salvia slowly and deeply when the container or ground soil feels dry.
Salvias do not need much to flower other than sun and water. They can benefit from an occasional fertilizer application, such as in spring once the plant begins growing again after a winter rest. Or add some compost to the ground or container and gently work it into the soil around the plant. Cut off faded flower stems at the foliage level after the first bloom period and the plant will likely produce more blooms later in the season.
Color Spires® Snow Kiss Salvia Spacing
Be sure to give Color Spires Snow Kiss Salvia plenty of room to reach its mature height and spread. Space each plant about 22 to 24 inches from center to center.
