Growing Zones
The striking color of the Coral Red Hens & Chicks makes this sempervivum stand out. Growing to around 5 inches tall, its fleshy and pointed leaves are a rich coral red. Tough and easy to grow, the Coral Red Hens & Chicks makes the perfect gift for someone special or to treat yourself!
The dense and compact Coral Red Hens & Chicks looks stunning when grown in a container, rock garden, or edge of a border. A low-maintenance succulent, it needs little ongoing care and is deer tolerant. Hardy in zones 4 to 8, this sempervivum is native to the mountainous regions of southern Europe.
Coral Red Hens & Chicks Care
For the richest color, grow Coral Red Hens & Chicks in fun sun. This succulent prefers a free-draining sandy or rocky substrate. Water hens and chicks when the soil dries out, and avoid wet soils as this can lead to the roots rotting. Fertilizing is not strictly required. However, you can apply a balanced organic feed for succulents in the spring to help replace any lost nutrients.
Minimal pruning, if any, is required for the Coral Red Hens & Chicks. As chicks are produced, you can tease them away and pot them up to grow new plants. Spent hens can be removed after blooming.
Coral Red Hens & Chicks Spacing
The Coral Red Hens & Chicks can grow to 4 to 5 inches tall and 6 to 8 inches wide. For ground cover, plant at a spacing of around 6 to 8 inches or further apart for a more defined appearance.
