Emerald Gem Homalomena is a member of the Philodendron plant family and has deep-green, glossy leaves. The foliage is beautiful and makes this plant an excellent choice for Philodendron lovers. Homalomena will produce flower spathes, although they rarely open and are inconspicuous. Removing the spathes as they form will keep Emerald Gem producing more foliage.

Best Locations For Growing Emerald Gem Homalomena

Emerald Gem Homalomena stays compact at maturity, making it easy to fit into just about any part of the house. The broad leaves help clean the air of toxic fumes from furniture, rugs, and other soft furnishings. All parts of this plant are poisonous and need to be protected from pets and children.

Emerald Gem Homalomena Sunlight Requirements

Indirect bright light to medium light levels helps Emerald Gem keep its deep-green foliage colorful and glossy. Lower-light levels are tolerated, but the growth may become leggy and sparse over time. Plants may grow longer or lean if the light is not even or if the light is coming from only one direction. Turning the plant every few days will help it grow straight.

Emerald Gem Homalomena Care

Homalomena is a moderate-growing plant that does not mind being slightly rootbound, although repotting every 2-3 years will keep this plant thriving. Use an indoor potting mix that has coco coir and perlite added. This makes the soil both free draining and moisture retentive. Always use a container that has drainage holes. This is a plant that does not like to be in waterlogged soil. Prune off dead or dying leaves to keep the plant from attracting pests or diseases.

Watering Emerald Gem Homalomena

Emerald Gem is a plant that lets you know when it needs watering. The leaves will droop but are quickly revived with a good watering session. Let this plant slightly dry out in between waterings, but not for very long. The top 1-2 inches of soil can be dry. Thoroughly wet the soil and let the pot sit for 5-10 minutes in the water collected in the saucer. This allows the roots to absorb as much moisture as they need. Discard any remaining water after 10 minutes. Watering during the winter may slow down as Homalomena goes semi-dormant. Emerald Gem Homalomena does not require high levels of humidity.

Feeding Emerald Gem Homalomena

Feed once a month with a diluted all-purpose houseplant formulation. A 10-10-10 NPK ratio supports foliage growth and root formation. Fertilizing is only necessary during the spring and summer while the plant is in active growth. If Emerald Gem continues to produce leaves in the winter, continue to fertilize every other month.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
