The EverColor® Everlime Japanese Sedge Grass, or the Carex O. Evercolor Everlime, brings a pop of fun and personality with its striking, bouncy leaves. Its dark green and shiny foliage features bright, lime-colored stripes on the edges that give the perennial a unique appearance. During the fall, however, the leaves may display gold-like shades. This plant grows aggressively during the early stages of spring. You can expect your perennial to reach a height of approximately 12 to 15 inches and a spread ranging from 15 to 18 inches. You can use these in borders, containers, ground covers, mass planting, and wildlife gardens.
Native to Japan, the EverColor® Everlime Japanese Sedge Grass perennial grows at a medium rate with a cascading growth pattern. However, if you cut your plant back, it will regrow at a slow rate. This evergreen plant is deer, disease, and drought-resistant. Although not typically a common concern, some pests to watch out for include aphids, the Bactra venosa caterpillar, anthracnose, fungus gnat larvae, and the Rhizoctonia. Overall, this perennial will require very little maintenance on your behalf and is likely to attract birds to your garden.
EverColor® Everlime Japanese Sedge Grass Plant Care
This perennial will grow best in an area with partial sun or even full shade. It must be protected from the harsh sun in very hot climates and should be sheltered from cold, winter areas. It needs well-drained soil with adequate drainage to thrive and will benefit from a thick layer of mulch around the root areas in both the summer and winter, as it will work to effectively keep the soil moist. You should water it on a weekly basis, or more often in cases of extreme heat. You can let the soil dry up a bit, but never let it dry completely. You may also use a slow release, low or medium rate fertilizer.
The EverColor® Everlime Japanese Sedge Grass does not require any type of pruning. However, you can prune it to improve the look of new foliage during the springtime. The best time to prune in this case would be from the latter half of winter to the very beginning of spring.
EverColor® Everlime Japanese Sedge Grass Plant Spacing
If you plan on planting your perennial in masses or as a bedding plant, it is important that you leave a minimum of 18 inches in between each plant.
