Feather Falls Sedge Grass features streaming shamrock green leaves with champagne edging in an elegant, rounded form. Complemented by spikes of wheat-colored florets in the spring, this perennial adds variegated color and movement to landscapes, decks, porches, and patios. Whether used as groundcover or added to beds, borders, and containers, this sedge, also known as Carex oshimensis 'Feather Falls' and Carex Feather Falls™ ‘ET CRX01’ PP26199, is a superb option to add interest year-round. Growing vigorously, this compact perennial reaches a maximum height and spread of only 12 to 18 inches. Supporting pollinators including bees, this plant not only beautifies the environment but it makes it healthier too. Also tolerant of shade, cold, sun, and heat, this selection bred by Hand Picked For You has a seemingly infinite list of positives.
Originating from Japan, this evergreen hybrid forms a tidy mound. Disease resistant, deer resistant, and drought tolerant, Feather Falls Sedge Grass is genetically equipped to survive regardless of the threats it may face. This variegated, showy sedge is also low maintenance and easy to grow. Even if you are new to gardening and don’t have a lot of free time, adding Feather Falls Sedge Grass to your yard or patio is a first-rate option.
Feather Falls Sedge Grass Care
Plant Feather Falls Sedge Grass in partial shade in an area that has moist, slightly acidic to neutral, well-draining soil. This showy perennial tolerates a variety of soil types including loam, clay, and sand. Possessing average watering needs, this ornamental requires about 1 inch of water per week. Over time, it will tolerate extended dry spells. Depending on the quality of its soil, Feather Falls Sedge Grass typically does not require feeding; however, if needed, add a balanced fertilizer annually during spring.
A low-maintenance selection, Feather Falls Sedge Grass does not require frequent pruning. In colder locations where this perennial is not evergreen, allow dead foliage to remain during the winter. Then, cut back the foliage during late winter/early spring to discourage disease and encourage new growth.
Feather Falls Sedge Grass Spacing
While Feather Falls Sedge Grass is technically a sedge and not a true grass, it can be incorporated as an ornamental grass in landscapes and containers. Attractive whether planted alone or en masse, this hybrid provides interest year-round in borders, beds, containers, and pathways. Mass plantings provide the greatest color effect. Space each plant 18 to 20 inches apart and add other companion plants including as astilbe, fern, and hosta.
