Feature
Flaming Sword Bromeliad is one of the most popular bromeliads. The stunning flower head can grow up to 2 feet in a burst of yellow and deep red that is very attractive. Although each plant only blooms once, it produces offshoots that will start a new growing cycle year after year. This plant is native to Trinidad, eastern Venezuela, and the Guinas.
Best Locations For Growing Flaming Sword Bromeliad
Place the Flaming Sword Bromeliad in bright, indirect sunlight indoors or in diffused light outdoors. Allow for some evening sun during the winter months. They seem to thrive on a table top or elevated surface a few feet from a window or light source. They grow well in hardiness zones 10-12.
Flaming Sword Bromeliad Sunlight Requirements
Indirect bright light is optimal for this plant to thrive. Placed outside, they will do well with diffused or dappled sunlight within the proper temperature range. Too much direct light will easily scald the leaves. They will only bloom if they are exposed to the proper lighting conditions. Placement near an eastern- or western-facing window is best.
Flaming Sword Bromeliad Care
Caring for the Flaming Sword Bromeliad is not difficult. They thrive in a one-to-one mix of regular potting soil and orchid mix. In their natural habitat, they grow on the branches of other trees. You can attach the plant to a large piece of bark as a way of showcasing this gorgeous bromeliad. Keep the plant in temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, but no warmer than 80 degrees.
Watering Flaming Sword Bromeliad
Water this plant only when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch. The soil should stay slightly moist. Keep the primary cup filled with water.
Feeding Flaming Sword Bromeliad
This plant does well with a monthly feed of an all-purpose liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season. The leaves can also be misted with a quality foliar spray. Diluted fertilizer can be added to the soil or bromeliad cup while watering.
