Goeldii Philodendron is a difficult-to-find plant that is satisfyingly easy to grow. The long, deep-green leaves grow in a spiral pattern that can be trained onto a moss-covered pole for extra support. The finger-like whorls of leaves are why this plant is known as Finger Plant or Finger tree. Goeldii is sometimes called Fun Bun because the top canopy has a spiral shape.
Best Locations For Growing Goeldii Philodendron
The vertical shape of this Philodendron makes it natural to tuck into the corner of a halfway or office. However, it deserves to be placed where it can shine as a specimen plant or the background to a plantscape of other tropical plants. All parts of Goeldii Philodendron are toxic and should be kept out of the reach of pets and children.
Goeldii Philodendron Sunlight Requirements
Goeldii Philodendron has deep-green leaves that will thrive in medium light. East- and west-facing windows provide indirect bright light for a limited period in the morning or afternoon, which is perfect for Goeldii’s needs. Philodendrons make good outdoor plants for a shaded patio or deck during the summer. Keep it out of direct sun, which will bleach and burn the leaves.
Goeldii Philodendron Care
Epiphytic plants like Goeldii Philodendron prefer a potting mix that is nutritious and fast draining. Mix 1 part potting soil to 1 part orchid bark; this will anchor the roots in the pot and provide adequate drainage and nutrition. Goeldii Philodendron does not like to be repotted often and grows well when pot-bound. Top-dress large pots in the spring with a mix of 1 part fine orchid bark mixed with 1 part worm castings. Goeldii Philodendron will begin to drop leaves if the indoor temperature drops below 55 degrees F.
Watering Goeldii Philodendron
Philodendrons are a great starter plant for new houseplant gardeners because they can tolerate periods of drought and neglect. Allowing the plant to dry in between waterings ensures that the roots are not soggy and have good air circulation. Water once a week in the summer and every 10-14 days in the winter when the growth slows down. Always make sure to use a container with excellent drainage and to discard any water standing in the saucer or cache pot.
Feeding Goeldii Philodendron
Apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer once a month to support rapid growth during the spring and summer. Fertilizing during the winter is unnecessary unless the plant begins to lose color and yellow.
