- Height 18-24 Inches
- Width 18-24 Inches
- Use as a thriller when using in containers
- Weeping rich bronze slender leaves!
This is a cool season annual and perennial grass in the sedge family. It is perennial anywhere temperatures stay about 5 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter, and treated as an annual with winter interest in climates with winter temperatures below 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Leave this beautiful grass in place over winter for a textural display and only remove it in the early spring to enjoy the view. If winter temperatures stay about 5 degrees, it will remain evergreen or semi-evergreen for winter garden display.
Native to New Zealand, Zones 7b to 10a, this attractive grass can be grown in containers or massed out in borders and landscapes. It makes a nice border around a water feature or interspersed in a large rock garden or xeriscape. Its rich bronze color remains all season long and its arching slender leaves provide an attractive weeping look.
Graceful Grasses Toffee Twist Sedge Grass Care
Care and maintenance is easy as it requires an average soil pH of 5.5 to 6.2, similar to most annuals. Its low water requirements and tolerance for clay, sand and loam soil as long as it drains well makes it a multi-functional addition to a dry weather garden or xeriscape. It is deer, heat and insect resistant making this a true “set it and forget it” plant.
Deadheading is not needed as this grass will continue to grow slowly all season long and produces little to no flowers. Trimming it in late winter to early spring before new growth begins when it is growing as a perennial, or after winter ends if it grows as an annual, will keep it attractive and functional off season. Don’t cut back over ⅓ of the plant if perennial or you may lose the plant.
Graceful Grasses Toffee Twist Sedge Grass Spacing
Growing up to 24 inches tall and 24 inches wide, space plantings 18 to 24 inches apart for optimum air flow and growth. Annual grown grasses will not come back after a killing freeze and must be removed from your environment in early spring. This annual/perennial looks great paired with other taller grasses and forms a weeping spike interest in large containers.
