Groundbreaker® Blush™ Hydrangea is a unique panicle hydrangea with a low, spreading habit that creates a flowering groundcover unlike traditional upright varieties. Large white flower panicles cover the plant beginning in midsummer, then gradually develop soft blush pink tones as the season progresses. The blooms can last up to 100 days, providing long-lasting color from summer into fall.
Groundbreaker Blush Hydrangea naturally grows wider than it does tall, making it a great choice for borders, mass plantings, slopes, and the front of landscape beds. It also performs well in decorative containers where its spreading habit can soften the edges. This compact shrub reaches about 12 inches tall and 24 inches wide at maturity and grows in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-8.
Groundbreaker® Blush™ Hydrangea Care
Plant Groundbreaker Blush Hydrangea in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly while the plant becomes established and during extended dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Groundbreaker Blush blooms on new wood, so pruning can be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Little pruning is typically needed beyond removing spent flowers or shaping the plant if desired, making this a low-maintenance addition to the landscape.
Groundbreaker® Blush™ Hydrangea Spacing
With a mature height of about 12 inches and a spread of 24 inches, Groundbreaker Blush Hydrangea works well as a flowering groundcover or along the front of borders. Space plants about 24 inches apart on center to allow them to fill in and create a continuous display of blooms.
