Blackberry Lilies are a subtle bloomer for the mid-summer perennial garden. The dainty, butter yellow flowers gently sway above the fine swordlike foliage from late June to late Juy. After these lovely bloomers have been pollinated by bees and other beneficial insects. Dark black clusters of berries that resemble Blackberries, appear and last throughout the winter as food for birds and other small mammals.
Blackberry Lilies are best when planted in large groups in a woodland garden or a cottage garden plan. The flowers are long lived as cut flowers and the berries would make an unusual addition to a fall mixed bouquet. Hello Yellow Blackberry Lily is extremely pest and disease resistant as well as disliked by deer and rabbits. A very low maintenance perennial that should be included in every garden.
Hello Yellow Blackberry Lily Care
Blackberry Liles like a soil pH that is anything from acid to alkaline. The soil can be of average texture with good drainage. After fully establishing, Blackberry Lilies are very drought tolerant and do not need supplemental watering during periods of hot dry weather.Blackberry LIlies will also tolerate consistently moist soils if the drainage is excellent throughout the winter. A full sun spot will ensure that masses of flowers form and the berries develop their signature black color.
Annual maintenance is very easy for Hello Yellow Blackberry LIly. Cutting back the spent seed stems and winter damaged leaves will help the plant maintain a tidy appearance and strong growth. Fertilizing with a well-balanced, slow release feed early in the spring supports healthy foliage growth and profuse flower formation.
