Growing Zones
The High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass is great for adding structural form and movement to the garden. Botanically named Miscanthus sinensis High Frequency, it grows 4 feet high and produces showy, green foliage with attractive yellow banding. Come fall, its foliage develops elegant seed heads that dance in the breeze. High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass is tough and hardy and can be grown in zones 5a to 9a.
Being deer and rabbit resistant, this ornamental grass is suitable for growing in both urban and rural gardens. It requires little care and is sterile so will not self-seed and take over your garden. Often planted in groups, High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass is perfect for adding to a border or growing in a large container. It is resistant to rust disease.
High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass Care
High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass is a fairly large cultivar and should be planted in full sun with lots of room to grow. It can tolerate most soils as long as they are free draining; just avoid any overly wet areas, which can cause the roots to rot. After planting, the soil needs to be kept moist for at least the first year, after which watering is generally only required during dry spells. Unless grown on very poor soil, High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass does not need to be fertilized.
This ornamental grass is wonderfully low maintenance and only needs cutting back once a year. In spring as the new shoots appear, simply remove the old foliage back to the base of the plant, but be careful not to cut away the precious new growth. If grown in a container, move it to a location protected from the worst of the wet and cold weather.
High Frequency™ Miscanthus Grass Spacing
This stunning miscanthus can grow to an eventual 4 feet tall by 3 feet wide. When planting High Frequency™ en masse, a spacing distance of 3.5 to 4 feet is recommended to give this ornamental the space it needs to thrive.
