The Iceberg Alley® Sageleaf Willow is a hardy plant that effortlessly adds color and texture to a landscape. Narrow leaves that slightly bend at the midrib and come to a point grow on tall stems and have a powdery, silver color. The Salix Candida provides texture and contrast, and while the stunner has some serious foliage, it also blooms. Cylindrical silver catkins with red stamens emerge in the spring, giving this plant even more visual interest.
This rounded shrub naturally maintains its shape and does not overtake or overwhelm a space, making it a wonderful plant to include in a mixed bed. Plant this beauty in beds, borders, or mass plantings. The catkins make lovely cut flowers. As a North American native, the Sageleaf Willow is deer-resistant but a draw for pollinators, and it requires very little care once acclimated. Iceberg Alley® Sageleaf Willow is a hardy deciduous plant that can easily live in USDA growing zones 2 through 6.
Iceberg Alley® Sageleaf Willow Care
At least 6 hours of sunlight is ideal, so plant in full sun, but the Sageleaf Willow can handle partial sun. The Iceberg Alley® Sageleaf Willow can tolerate damp conditions, but it does not like standing water, so use moist but well-drained soil. Water when the top few inches of soil dry out.
Apply a balanced fertilizer in the spring to encourage new foliage and flowers. Prune this plant to maintain the height and spread as needed.
Iceberg Alley® Sageleaf Willow Spacing
The Iceberg Alley® Sageleaf Willow is a mounded, upright perennial that will grow 3 to 6 feet tall and wide. To create a full and dense planting, space plants as close as 2 to 4 feet apart.
