With delicate silvery-green leaves, Tillandsia Ionantha Guatemala is a low-maintenance air plant that thrives in bright, indirect light. Provided the right light and humidity, Ionantha Guatemala will bloom and easily produce ‘pups,’ allowing you to keep enjoying this unique epiphytic plant. When the leaves turn red, Ionantha Guatemala blooms trumpets of bright violet emerging from its rosette of leaves. The care for this air plant is as easy as regular misting or weekly dunking in water.

Best Locations For Growing Ionantha Guatemala Air Plant

Keep Ionantha Guatemala in a spot where it can receive bright, indirect sunlight. Because air plants are native to the tropics, they appreciate areas of high humidity, such as your bathroom or in a location where watering can be easily achieved weekly. Tillandsia air plants are non-toxic, making them ideal plants in homes with curious pets or children.

Ionantha Guatemala Air Plant Sunlight Requirements

In nature, these epiphytes can be found attached to rocks and tree trunks below the tree canopy, receiving dappled and indirect light throughout the day. Ionantha Guatemala will do best in bright, indirect light, close to a window but protected from direct sunlight.

Ionantha Guatemala Air Plant Care

Air plants are considered low maintenance because they do not require soil, a pot, or much fertilizer. While the occasional dry leaf can be easily removed, Ionantha Guatemala will continue to thrive with minimal care, only needing regular misting or watering and plenty of bright, indirect light.

Watering Ionantha Guatemala Air Plant

Air plants are unique in that they do not use roots to absorb water. Instead, small scales on their leaves collapse when they are touched with water, fading from silver to bright green. To water Ionantha Guatemala, mist the leaves every couple of days, especially in drier months. Once a week, you can dunk air plants in water for 20 minutes to 1 hour, allowing the leaves to absorb water. Be sure to shake your air plants dry before returning to any kind of air plant holder, terrarium, etc.

Feeding Ionantha Guatemala Air Plant

Air plants are light feeders and can thrive without regular fertilizing. If you do decide to fertilize Ionantha Guatemala, add a water-soluble Tillandsia- or bromeliad-specific fertilizer to the water you mist or dunk with once a month during the growing season (spring-summer). You can also use regular houseplant fertilizer diluted to ¼ strength.

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!
