Prunus pumila Jade Parade® Sand Cherry has glossy blueish-green foliage on outward and upward spreading branches. Beautiful, 1/2-inch, white blooms with a central accent of yellow stamens appear profusely along each stem in spring. Those flowers will then create small black fruit appearing in late summer. The spectacular spring flower display is followed by showy, fiery, orange-red fall colors on finely textured foliage. Jade Parade Sand Cherry is a choice specimen for any landscape!
This extremely cold-hardy and low-maintenance shrub is a fragrant butterfly magnet that also attracts songbirds when the tiny black fruit appears in late summer. This shrub grows well in Hardiness Zones 3-7. Reaching 2-3 ft in height with a wider 4-6 ft. spreading habit, it can be used as a colorful alternative to more common hedging.
Jade Parade® Sand Cherry Care
Plant Jade Parade® Sand Cherry in a location where it will receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day to promote flowering and fruiting. Jade Parade is a rugged, highly ornamental, water-wise shrub. Plant it in well-draining soil. It requires a moderate amount of water during the first season of growth; once it is mature and established, it is tolerant of dry conditions.
Prune Jade Parade® Sand Cherry to shape in spring, directly after flowering because this variety blooms on old growth. Apply a 2-3-inch layer of organic mulch over the root system to maintain moisture, pulling it back from the main stems.
Jade Parade® Sand Cherry Spacing
Jade Parade® Sand Cherry can be planted as a single specimen or used as a deciduous elegant hedge due to its low, compact, spreading habit. To create a solid low hedge, plant it 4 ft apart on center to allow for its mature width.
