Looking for a showy addition to your fish tank? Java Moss is a low-maintenance aquatic plant that will provide shelter for your fish while also keeping your tank healthy by oxygenating the water. This plant is versatile, growing well in low-light conditions. Easy for beginners—planting is as simple as throwing it in your tank. It will grow on its own from there!
Best Locations For Growing Java Moss
Your Java Moss plant is a great addition to any fish tank. Because it thrives in a variety of light conditions, it will do well in any room.
Java Moss Light Requirements
This is a hardy, easy-to-grow plant that doesn’t need much light to thrive. If you have low lighting in your tank, the plant will simply be darker in color and more spread out. Higher lighting will produce a more compact, denser plant.
Java Moss Care
Java Moss is easy to care for. Simply throw it in your aquatic tank and it will grow. You can also choose where it will grow by burying the roots in gravel or tying it to something in the tank. One of the most common issues with Java Moss is algal growth. A good way to treat this problem is to dowse the plant with a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide. But be careful, as hydrogen peroxide can kill fish and invertebrates if not used cautiously. Natural ways to avoid algal growth are avoiding light that is too powerful, and making sure to balance light, nutrients and carbon dioxide in your aquarium.
Watering Java Moss
Because Java Moss is an aquatic plant, there is no need to water it. Just make sure the water temperature is kept between 69-75 degrees Fahrenheit. The plant can thrive in temperatures of up to 86 degrees, but its growth will be slower in warmer water.
Feeding Java Moss
Java Moss does not need fertilizer to grow well, but it can grow faster with a little feeding. The best fertilizers to use are liquid additives that go into the water column.
