Laurentii Snake Plant is the best plant to give the beginning gardener. Not only will it take just about any light or humidity situation, but it can also be left entirely alone to grow at its own rate, with no need for complicated maintenance or pruning. Laurentii is also known as the Mother in Law’s Tongue. The leaves of Laurentii have a mustardy-yellow edging and contrasting, horizontal, white variegation. Some people seem to think the Snake Plant got this name because of the leaves' barbed spines on the sides.
Best Locations For Growing Laurentii Snake Plant
Practically any indoor spot is a good for laurentii Snake Plant. The vertical shape lends itself to be a lovely floor plant in a corner or hallway. The compact width makes it useful for tucking into smaller rooms and apartment spaces. Snake Plants are toxic to pets and should be grown out of reach.
Laurentii Snake Plant Sunlight Requirements
Any level of light is acceptable to Snake Plant. Lower light levels may slow the growth or cause the foliage markings to be less vivid. Snake Plants need a period of adjustment when being taken outdoors to grow for the summer. Moving the plant directly into bright, outdoor light may cause bleaching and could seriously injure the leaves. Over a week or two, move Laurentii Snake Plant from semi-shade to its final position. Growing this plant outdoors during the summer also encourages rapid growth.
Laurentii Snake Plant Care
A potting mix with added perlite or fine orchid bark provides excellent drainage. Using a plastic pot will keep the soil more moist for longer. A terracotta pot will help protect Snake Plant from being overwatered. Snake Plants like to be slightly rootbound and do not need regular repotting. Repot when many roots grow out of the bottom of the pot.
Watering Laurentii Snake Plant
Check for watering once a week. The top 3-4 inches of soil should be dry. Water until the excess liquid drains from the bottom of the pot. Empty the saucers and cache pots, so the roots do not sit in water. There is no need to provide extra humidity as long as your house stays around 40%. Grouping Snake Plants with other succulents and desert-loving plants together allows them to support each other.
Feeding Laurentii Snake Plant
Fertilize Snake Plant once every 3-4 months. A balanced, liquid houseplant food will support the foliage and root growth. Water the fertilizer in at half the recommended dosage.
