- Stunning Foliage
- Light Preference/Tolerated (Bright Indirect Light)
- Average Watering Needs
- Mature Height 5-15 feet
For great foliage and an upright habit, the Lime Light Dracaena is certainly worth considering. Also known as the dragon plant, from the Greek word ‘drakaina’, this evergreen produces stunning long and slender glossy leaves in shades of yellow and green. Originating from tropical parts of Africa, it is no surprise that it prefers to be kept warm and away from any cold drafts. This is a low-maintenance plant that can tolerate low-light levels.
Best Locations For Growing Limelight Dracaena
The Lime Light Dracaena can be grown in any room, just as long as it is kept warm and does not receive any bright direct sunlight. Growing to an eventual height of six feet when grown indoors, this dracaena can add great visual impact wherever it is grown.
Limelight Dracaena Sunlight Requirements
Able to tolerate low to bright light, the Lime Light Dracaena should not be placed near a window where it will receive any strong direct sunlight, which can bleach the leaves. A dimmer spot will promote a more chartreuse color on the leaves. Re-pot using a free-draining and fertile houseplant soil every 2 to 3 years or when the plant becomes rootbound.
Limelight Dracaena Care
Lime Light is a slow-growing and low-maintenance plant. Dead or browning leaves can be removed by cutting at the base with a pair of sanitized and sharp scissors. Preferring high humidity levels, the Lime Light Dracaena benefits from regular misting. Wipe its foliage regularly with a damp cloth to remove any dust.
Watering Limelight Dracaena
The Lime Light Dracaena is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to the roots rotting, especially in winter. To avoid this, the soil can be allowed to dry slightly between watering, although not completely, and watering should be reduced during the colder months. Using harvested rainwater is advisable to help prevent the leaf tips from turning brown.
Feeding Limelight Dracaena
During the growing season, from spring to the fall, the Lime Light Dracaena will benefit from a monthly houseplant feed diluted to half strength.
