Growing Zones
Enjoy attractive flowers all summer long with the Lollipop Verbena. The dainty 5-petaled flowers bloom in globe-like clusters on top of tall stems. Enjoy the charming flowers of the Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop' from early summer through the first frost. Long, narrow foliage grows near the base, giving the plant a full and dense appearance.
This perennial has a compact, dwarf growth habit, making it well suited to the front of a mixed bed or border. The Lollipop Verbena is an excellent container plant, and the blooms also make wonderful cut flowers. This plant supports pollinators but is not favored by foragers like deer and rabbits. The summer heat and drought do not interfere with the consistent blooms. The Lollipop Verbena grows as a perennial in zones 7 through 9.
Lollipop Verbena Care
The Lollipop Verbena requires full to partial sun and moist, well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil. It is drought tolerant at maturity but appreciates water during a dry spell to support growth. Fertilize the Lollipop Verbena using a balanced plant food in the spring and again halfway through the summer. Container-grown plants benefit from being fertilized every two weeks.
Remove dead or damaged growth to keep the plants tidy and promote a bushier form. Trim back all growth after the first frost or when new growth appears in early spring.
Lollipop Verbena Spacing
The Lollipop Verbena is compact and grows 1 to 2 feet tall and wide. Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart when creating a dense planting or feature three plants in a container.
