Feature
The Medusa Bromeliad, or Neoregelia Medusa as it is botanically named, is an unusual houseplant that produces green and red leaves in a medusa-like form. Originating from the tropics, the Medusa Bromeliad can be grown as in a pot or epiphytically and will bring color to any indoor spot.
Best Locations For Growing Medusa Bromeliad
Preferring high humidity levels, the Medusa Bromeliad thrives in a kitchen, bathroom or living room where it can receive bright, but indirect light.
Medusa Bromeliad Sunlight Requirements
The Medusa Bromeliad grows best in a bright spot just as long as it doesn’t receive any strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage. Diffused light from an east-or west-facing window is ideal. For more intense color, the plant can be placed in a slightly brighter position.
Medusa Bromeliad Care
The Medusa Bromeliad requires a free-draining soil that is kept moist and a warm environment. Placing the plant on a tray of wet pebbles and misting can help increase humidity levels. Dead and dry foliage can be removed by cutting at the base with a pair of clean and sharp scissors. The Medusa Bromeliad prefers a temperature of 60 to 80 °F and good ventilation.
Watering Medusa Bromeliad
This bromeliad prefers its soil to be kept moist, but not wet, as a waterlogged soil can lead to root rot. The Medusa bromeliad has a central well, where water should be applied.Distilled or harvested rainwater at room temperature is recommended, as tap water may contain chemical compounds that can build up in the soil over time.
Feeding Medusa Bromeliad
Medusa Bromeliad can be fed every four weeks from spring to autumn, using a diluted house plant liquid fertilizer.
