Also known as the Ming Stump or Ming Aralia, the Ming Aralia Stump Plant makes for a beautiful houseplant with its fluffy, feathery foliage. It can also be grown as a bonsai, adding elements of peace, harmony and balance to your home. In addition to its aesthetic properties, this plant is also a great purifier, removing dangerous chemicals from the air in your abode.
Best Locations For Growing Ming Aralia Stump Plant
Because this plant is slightly toxic to humans and animals, it is best to keep it out of reach of children and pets. Use it as a flashy showpiece on a kitchen countertop, or in the living room or office.
Ming Aralia Stump Plant Light Requirements
The Ming Aralia Stump Plant likes bright, indirect light but can also tolerate light shade. Allow your plant to receive morning sun and avoid harsh afternoon sunlight. Try to give your Ming Aralia about 6-8 hours of filtered light per day. These plants do especially well near north-facing windows.
Ming Aralia Stump Plant Care
The Ming Aralia likes a rich, well-drained soil mixture that can vary in blend from sandy, peat moss or loamy. Make sure it has good drainage, however. It’s best to use a clay or terracotta pot, which will help wick excess moisture from the soil and prevent root rot.
Re-pot your Ming Aralia annually as needed, or every other year. This plant can reach up to 6 feet tall. If you’d like to keep your Ming Aralia smaller, re-pot it less frequently, as the plant doesn’t mind being slightly pot bound.
Temperature and humidity are important considerations when growing this plant. You’ll want to keep it in a room that is consistently above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything below that will cause it to shed its foliage. You’ll also want to keep your Ming Aralia in relatively humid conditions to mimic its tropical home. You can fill a container or pot with wet pebbles or place it near a humidifier.
Watering Ming Aralia Stump Plant
Your Ming Aralia needs to be kept consistently moist, but never saturated. Water the soil deeply, and allow it to dry out almost completely before the next watering. Generally, watering your Ming Aralia once per week should do the job. You may need to slow down your watering routine in the winter.
Feeding Ming Aralia Stump Plant
Use a liquid fertilizer once per month from the spring through fall. If you notice that its leaves are turning yellowish-green, it’s a good indication that your plant isn’t getting enough nutrients. Time to fertilize!
