Dracaena trifasciata, popularly known as Moonshine Snake Plant, is an evergreen flowering succulent with distinct, pale, silvery-green, spear-shaped upright leaves with attractive darker-green margins that look as though the plant is bathing in moonlight. Previously known as Sansevieria trifasciata until 2017, other names include SilverGlow, MoonGlow, or Silver Moonshine. This hardy, low-maintenance houseplant is ideal for beginners. Snake Plants are scientifically proven to help filter the air in your home from harmful chemicals. Add this attractive and functionally beneficial plant to your houseplant collection.

Best Locations For Growing Moonshine Snake Plant

Moonshine Snake Plant grows well in room temperatures between 55 - 85 degrees F with average humidity and plenty of bright indirect light. Be sure to place this plant out of reach of pets as it is toxic if ingested. Avoid exposing your Moonshine Snake Plant to extreme temperature fluctuations or cold drafts during winter, as this can produce wrinkled leaves.

Moonshine Snake Plant Sunlight Requirements

While Snake Plants can live in a variety of lighting circumstances, their ideal placement is in indirect medium to bright sunlight. Brighter light environments will produce new growth faster.

Moonshine Snake Plant Care

Grow Moonshine in light, airy potting soil, either one specific for succulents, or a homemade mix containing one part perlite, one part sand, and one part potting soil to ensure proper drainage. Plant this Snake Plant in a pot with adequate drainage holes. Place your plant in environments ranging from 55 - 85 degrees F with average humidity. You can take a damp cloth and wipe the top and undersides of the leaves to keep them looking fresh. Repotting is recommended in the spring every 2-3 years.

Watering Moonshine Snake Plant

Water Moonshine Snake Plant with room temperature water when the top 2” of soil are completely dry. In warmer weather, water as often as needed when the top of the soil dries out. Stick your finger about 2” down to feel the moisture in the soil; Snake Plants are prone to root rot so be sure to let your plant dry out completely before its next watering.

Feeding Moonshine Snake Plant

If your Moonshine Snake Plant is growing well, it’s not necessary to regularly fertilize it or provide additional nutrients. You can use a diluted, balanced fertilizer with an NPK rating of 5-5-5 during the warmer spring and summer growing seasons.
