If you are after height and movement, the Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass is hard to beat. Growing to around 6 feet tall, Miscanthus sinensis 'Oktoberfest' produces green and white foliage that turns a red-purple hue before it blooms. Flowering earlier than some other miscanthus, ‘Oktoberfest’ develops copper-red blooms before they turn into wonderful fluffy seed heads.

The Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass is easy to grow and suitable for cultivating in zones 5 to 9. It is deer resistant and perfect for more rural or wooded locations. It is ideal for adding height and motion to a border and looks impressive when grown in a group. It is also well suited to growing as a standalone specimen or focal point.

Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass Care

The Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass performs best in full sun, but can benefit from some afternoon shade in the South. It will tolerate most soil types but prefers a moist substrate that is well-drained. Irrigate during the growing season until established, after which it can tolerate dry spells. When grown in relatively fertile soil, no feeding is required.

The Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass is best pruned annually in late winter to early spring before any new growth appears. Simply cut it back to a few inches above soil level and wait for the new shoots to emerge.

Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass Spacing

When mature, the Oktoberfest Miscanthus Grass can reach 6 to 7 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. When growing en masse, you can plant it at a spacing of 2 to 4 feet apart.
