With its wonderfully contrasting flowers and foliage, the Orange Gnome Arkwright's Campion is sure to add some color and interest to the garden. Producing bright orange blooms up to 1.5 inches across, this lychnis’s bronze-purple foliage really sets them off. As a compact perennial, it grows to just over one foot high and can be used for many planting uses. The Orange Gnome Arkwright's Campion is perfect for adding some color to a hot border.
As a low-growing and clump-forming perennial, this campion is ideal for growing at the front of a bed, lining a path, or decorating a container. A tough and hardy plant, it can tolerate zones 3 through 9, and being a perennial, it dies back in the winter. It is generally disease-free and is easy to grow and care for.
Orange Gnome Arkwright's Campion Care
For the Orange Gnome Arkwright's Campion to thrive and put on the best show of blooms, it should be grown in full or partial sun. It prefers fertile soil that is free draining and evenly moist. To support its stunning flowers and foliage color, a slow-release, general fertilizer can be applied in the spring. Regular watering is required to keep the soil moist, particularly when grown in a pot.
Faded flowers can be removed to help encourage new buds to form. Once the stems have begun to die back in winter, you can prune them to ground level. To increase longevity, pot-grown plants can be moved under cover to overwinter.
Orange Gnome Arkwright's Campion Spacing
The Orange Gnome Arkwright's Campion remains compact with a final size of 12-15 inches tall and wide. To provide a mass of color, this lychnis can be planted out in a group at a spacing of 12-15 inches apart.
