Peach Melba Crocosmia produces coppery buds that open in a warm peach-orange color on dark, contrasting stems. It grows to roughly 30–36 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, so it shows up in the middle of a border without swallowing the front edge. Unlike louder orange crocosmias, this one lands softer and more refined, pulling in hummingbirds and butterflies once it starts opening along the stems. We’ve found it’s the easiest way to add a “sunset” note to a sunny bed without needing a whole new color scheme.
Crocosmia ‘Peach Melba’ sends up clean, sword-like green foliage before flowering begins. Later, sturdy bloom spikes stay upright for cutting and for late-season structure. Deer typically leave crocosmia alone, and this variety fits well in borders for mid-to-late summer color without a floppy habit. Plant it in clusters so the arching stems make a bigger statement and pollinator show. Over time it will multiply by corms, which is great for massing.
Peach Melba Crocosmia Care
Grow Peach Melba Crocosmia in full sun (6+ hours) for the best flowering; in the hottest climates, a little afternoon shade can help blooms last longer. It’s adaptable to many soils, from poor to fertile, but it must be well-drained. It tolerates a wide pH range from slightly acidic through alkaline. Avoid heavy, waterlogged clay unless you amend for drainage.
Water regularly the first season so the soil stays lightly moist, then shift to a “deep soak and dry” pattern once established. A bulb fertilizer or balanced slow-release feed in spring is plenty, as too much nitrogen can encourage leaves at the expense of flowers. After bloom, leave the foliage standing until it yellows naturally so the corms recharge for next year.
Cut spent flower stems back once they finish if you want a tidier look and fewer seedheads for winter, or leave them if you like the dried structure in arrangements. Every 2–3 years, lift and divide crowded clumps in spring to keep flowering strong and prevent the center from thinning. In colder areas, add a deep winter mulch, and in the coldest zones it’s best to lift and store corms like dahlias.
Peach Melba Crocosmia Spacing
Space corms about 6–8 inches apart for quick, full clumps, or give plants 12 inches of space if you want more air flow in humid gardens. In containers, use a pot that’s at least 14–16 inches wide so you can plant a small cluster rather than a single stem.
For landscape companions, pair Peach Melba with yarrow and Russian sage to echo the airy bloom form while keeping the planting drought-friendly once established, and tuck in sedum nearby for late-season harmony. In containers, combine it with trailing ivy for spill and fountain grass for leaf contrast that keeps the pot looking good even between bloom waves.
