Pet Safe

In need of a petite attraction that’s a pleasant distraction from your stress at work or home? Pink Star Cryptanthus, also known as Cryptanthus 'Pink Star', Cryptanthus bivittatus (Hook.) Regel, and Earth Star, is an unusual, slow-growing, herbaceous perennial. This adorable star-shaped evergreen’s foliage, a mélange of variegated green and cherry red hues, is certain to entice. Nontoxic to people and pets, this monocarpic and humidity-tolerant bromeliad can be maintained in any room without caution. Low maintenance and delightful, this diversion is perfect for new gardeners who don’t have a lot of free time on their hands but want something appealing to view.

Best Locations For Growing Pink Earth Star Plant

Pink Star Cryptanthus grows best if provided medium to bright indirect. This cute perennial also prefers average temperatures and high humidity. Temperatures should ideally be kept around 65°F to 75°F while a comfortable humidity range is 50%-60%. A brightly bathroom might most closely resemble the tropical paradise these bromeliads prefer. And? Since Pink Star Cryptanthus is nontoxic to people and pets, you don’t need to worry if little hands and paws have access to the room in which you choose to maintain this lovely house plant.

Pink Earth Star Plant Sunlight Requirements

This evergreen does best if provided medium to bright indirect light. Avoid direct light, however, due to the possibility of the light fading this plant’s variegated hues.

Pink Earth Star Plant Care

Pink Star Cryptanthus requires well-draining soil that is slightly acidic to slightly alkaline with a pH range of 6.1 to 7.8. To prevent fungal disease, a good houseplant potting soil with some peat moss and perlite/sand added is recommended. Low maintenance, this bromeliad neither requires frequent pruning or repotting. Simply remove dead or damaged leaves as necessary.  Finally, since this plant lives for only a few years, you can use offsets to propagate it, thereby creating a lifelong opportunity to enjoy this species without ever buying another plant.

Watering Pink Earth Star Plant

This mesic bromeliad needs to be watered often during the summer but infrequently during the winter. Pink Star Cryptanthus does not enjoy sitting in soggy soil, so conduct a moisture check prior to watering. Simply insert your finger an inch or so beneath the soil, and water if dry.

Feeding Pink Star Cryptanthus

During the spring, you can feed Pink Star Cryptanthus a balanced water-soluble fertilizer, but avoid fertilizing this perennial during the months of summer and autumn.
