With its elegant star-shaped flowers, this Pink Profusion Bowman's Root will delight wherever you decide to grow it. Botanically known as Porteranthus trifoliatus 'Pink Profusion', this perennial develops a mass of delicate pink flowers that gently sway above its green foliage. As a compact plant with a maximum height and spread of around 2-3 feet, it is ideal for many shady spots. As the temperature begins to dip in the fall, its foliage can take on an attractive red autumnal hue.
The Pink Profusion Bowman's Root is native to North Eastern America and suitable for growing in USDA zones 4 to 9. Being naturally deer resistant, it is well matched to rural gardens and is drought tolerant once established. With an almost gaura-like form, Pink Profusion Bowman's Root makes a big impact when planted en masse in a border or when grown in a container.
Pink Profusion Bowman's Root Care
This Bowman’s root can be grown in full sun or partial shade. It prefers a well-drained but moist soil that is either neutral or slightly acidic. In general, any extra fertilization is rarely needed. However, an annual mulch of organic matter can be applied in spring to help give the plant a boost and reduce moisture loss. Regular irrigation is required to prevent this plant from drying out.
In early spring, the old stems can be cut down to soil level to make way for new growth. When grown in a container, this perennial will require more frequent watering than if grown in the ground.
Pink Profusion Bowman's Root Spacing
Once established, Pink Profusion Bowman's Root can grow to an eventual 24-30 inches high and wide. Often grown in groups for the best effect, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart to plan for their mature size.
