The Pixie Peperomia (Peperomia orba) is a charming vining plant from Central America. Some of its common names are: Radiator Plant, ‘Pixie Lime’, and Peperomia Teardrop. It’s sometimes called the Teardrop Peperomia due to its characteristic teardrop-shaped leaves. Grown for its foliage, the Pixie Peperomia has fuzzy, bright-green leaves with a white-central stripe.

Best Locations For Growing Pixie Peperomia

The best location for growing Pixie Peperomia is an east-facing window. In rooms with southern or western exposure, set the plant a few feet away from the window. Pixie is great for any indoor space with adequate light because its compact size makes it easy to fit anywhere.

Pixie Peperomia Sunlight Requirements

Pixie Peperomia thrive if provided with plenty of indirect sunlight. Two or three feet away from a south-facing window, or near an east- or west-facing window is ideal. If the plant starts to look too long and leggy, try moving it to a brighter location.

Pixie Peperomia Care

Pixie Peperomia prefers well-draining, peat-based soil and containers that allow plenty of drainage. When repotting your plant, use a general-purpose houseplant soil, or a blend of equal parts peat moss and perlite. Repotting should occur about every other spring, as needed. To prune Pixie, give it a trim when you see dead leaves, or if you want to maintain the shape of the plant.

Watering Pixie Peperomia

Wait until the top few inches of soil are dry, and then thoroughly water. This succulent plant is susceptible to root rot so it is important to let the soil dry before watering again. As a general estimate, water about once or twice a week. Like other Peperomias, Pixie prefers medium to high humidity.

Feeding Pixie Peperomia

In the early spring, feed your Peperomia with a liquid fertilizer diluted to half the strength recommended on the label. For a steady growth rate, monthly doses of fertilizer show good results. Over-fertilizing can cause a decline in the plant’s health.
