Growing Zones
The broad foliage of the Prairie Winds® Niagara Falls Switch Grass gently arches and bends, creating a full and mounded appearance. The Panicum virgatum boasts green leaves with a slight blue tint for added dimension and interest. During late summer, brown flowers bloom on tall stems and create a cloud-like haze over the foliage. By fall, the flowers transition into cream-colored seed heads.
This stately plant can anchor a bed or create a robust border. Prairie Winds® Niagara Falls Switch Grass is native, so it requires very little care once it has acclimated. The lovely arching foliage is deer-resistant and salt-tolerant for placement near coastal areas or roadways. Grow this plant as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.
Prairie Winds® Niagara Falls Switch Grass Care
Plant this lovely grass in full sun because it needs at least 6 hours of sunlight to thrive. Switch Grass is drought-tolerant, but water when the top few inches of soil dry out for continued growth. Plant in rich, moist, but well-drained soil. Apply a balanced fertilizer during the spring to support new growth.
The foliage will stay in place year-round. Dead or damaged growth can be removed at any time, but dethatch in the spring before new growth appears.
Prairie Winds® Niagara Falls Switch Grass Spacing
This beauty will grow 48 inches tall, and the arching foliage will spread out over an area 48 inches wide. Plant Switchgrass 48 inches apart when creating a continuous planting
