Nothing adds color and interest to a garden like some fantastic foliage. Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage has some fantastic foliage with gorgeous rosettes of burgundy leaves. Leaves change from deep purple in the summer to bright red in the autumn, adding even more interest! Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage is mainly grown for its foliage but it gives off spikes of white to lilac-blue flowers in late spring and summer that make excellent cut flowers. This plant’s twist on the standard salvia will be a welcome addition to your garden!

Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage is easy to grow and resilient. Native to meadows, thickets, and the woods edge in the East Coast of the US, Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage is hardy from zone 4 - 9. Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage is a native alternative to common ajuga groundcovers. The plant makes a great choice for rock gardens, as a ground cover, in containers, or in garden edges or borders. Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage is drought tolerant as well as humidity tolerant. The plants self sow and spread easily.

Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage Care

Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage prefers sun to part shade in moist or dry soil. You do not need to baby these plants with fussy watering schedules; they need little water and can withstand drought-like conditions. Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage is happy in a wide range of soil pHs from alkaline to acidic. They benefit from a topdressing of compost or a slow-release granular fertilizer at the time of planting, but do not require additional fertilization thereafter.

Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage does not require any pruning. You can cut back flower stems after blooms are spent to promote new flowers. Allow the plant to die back after the first frost in colder growing zones. The foliage can be cut back to the ground in winter or early spring.

Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage Spacing

Purple Knockout Lyre Leaved Sage can reach 18 inches tall with a 12-inch spread. Allow 12 to 24 inches of space between plants.
