Growing Zones
The perennial Ribbon Falls Sedge Grass, or Carex Ribbon Falls as it is also known, is ideal for dappled or even full shade. It produces deep green blades that curl at the bottom and are evergreen, adding year-round interest. Remaining small, Ribbon Falls grows to an eventual 18 inches high and wide and is suitable for a range of uses. This sedge makes a tough and great alternative to Liriope.
With its lush green foliage, the Ribbon Falls Sedge is ideal for either planting in a mixed container or planting en masse to provide a textured shade-loving carpet. Furthermore, you can really show its ornate form by growing it in a hanging pot to drape over. This Sedge Grass is tough and suitable for growing in zones 5 through to 9. If that wasn’t enough, it is also resistant to deer and needs little ongoing care.
Ribbon Falls Sedge Grass Plant Care
It is best to grow this carex in either light or full shade, as hot sun can burn the foliage. It prefers well-drained, fertile soil. To encourage lush new growth, you can apply a weak solution of a general fertilizer in spring. When watering, aim to keep the soil evenly moist.
Ribbon Falls Sedge is evergreen in warmer parts. However, for colder areas, remove any old or tatty-looking leavesin late winter or early spring before the new ones begin to grow.
Ribbon Falls Sedge Grass Plant Spacing
As a clump-forming perennial, the Ribbon Falls Sedge Grass tends to grow no more than 18 inches across. To appreciate its form, you can plant it out at a spacing of around 15 to 18 inches.
