Even though compact, the Rigoletto Maiden Grass will certainly draw attention with its stunning variegated foliage. Growing to around three feet high, the Miscanthus sinensis Rigoletto as it is also known, is perfect for smaller spaces. The foliage has distinct white and green stripes that will add texture and movement wherever it is planted.

With a dense habit, Rigoletto Maiden Grass will not open from the center and fall over. Furthermore, it develops tall pink plumes that fade to brown as they age in the fall. Suitable for growing in zones 5 to 8, the Rigoletto Maiden Grass looks spectacular when grown in a group but can equally hold its own when grown as a single specimen.

Rigoletto Maiden Grass Care

The Rigoletto Maiden Grass thrives when it is grown in full sun. It can, however, cope with some shade but may not be as strong and may need staking. It prefers well-drained soil and is not fussy about the pH. Water well on planting and for the first year or two after. To give this plant a boost, you can add a layer of garden compost at the time of planting.

In late winter, remove the old foliage by cutting it back to around 6 inches above the soil before any new growth appears. Tying the old foliage in a bundle with a rope can help hold the blades together when pruning back.

Rigoletto Maiden Grass Spacing

In the right conditions, Rigoletto Maiden Grass can grow to 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Plant at a spacing of around three feet, center to center.
