The Rock Steady™ Chastetree is a prolific bloomer, providing dependable flowers from spring through fall. Light purple flowers are tiny but grow in large flower spikes for a showy look. This beauty blooms on new wood and can continuously bloom for 6 to 16 weeks. Botanically known as Vitex agnus-castus 'V12-2-1', this shrub has green foliage that comes to a gentle point.
The rounded, upright form of the Rock Steady™ Chastetree works well in a mixed bed, border, or container. Trim the stems to display the cut flowers in arrangements. This is an easy plant to maintain as it is both heat and drought tolerant. The flowers attract pollinators, making this shrub a good choice for a butterfly garden. The Rock Steady™ Chastetree grows as a perennial in zones 5 through 9.
Rock Steady™ Chastetree Care
Chastetrees prefer dry, well-drained soil. An average-quality, sandy soil with a neutral pH will support growth. Plant the Rock Steady™ Chastetree in full sun. When newly planted, give the plant infrequent but deep waterings. Established plants are drought tolerant, but retain their flowers better with supplemental water during a prolonged dry period. Apply a balanced fertilizer in the spring.
The Rock Steady™ Chastetree blooms on new wood, so remove overgrowth in late winter or early spring before the plant wakes up from dormancy. Deadhead flowers as they begin to fade to prolong the bloom cycle.
Rock Steady™ Chastetree Spacing
Mature plants reach 4 to 12 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. Space plants 4 to 5 feet apart to create a continuous planting.
