For some textured foliage you can run your hands through, try the Rosy Sedge Grass. Forming shaggy mounds of narrow green blades, this Carex rosea grows to no more than 3 feet tall and produces green, star-shaped flowers in late spring. This ornamental grass is low maintenance and great for providing winter interest.

Rosy Sedge Grass is deer resistant and generally pest-free. Once established, it can cope with dry or moist conditions. It is particularly useful as a ground cover or an edging plant. Rosy is suitable for growing in zones 4 to 8 and native to parts of the Northeastern US.

Rosy Sedge Grass Care

The Rosy Sedge Grass is happiest when grown in partial shade, and the edge of a woodland is ideal. Amazingly tolerant, this sedge grass can cope with both wet and dry soils. However, regular watering is needed until this grass has established itself. As a light feeder, fertilizers are not generally required. Nevertheless, you can give this plant a boost by mulching around the base with some organic compost or manure.

Little to no pruning is needed. If the foliage turns brown over the winter, you can cut it back using a sharp and clean pair of shears.

Rosy Sedge Grass Spacing

When fully grown, the Rosy Sedge Grass can reach a size of 1 to 3 feet all over. If growing in a group, you can space this grass around 1 to 3 feet apart depending on the desired overall effect.
