Growing Zones
This plant will add bright scarlet-red flower spikes above lush evergreen foliage in your garden from April through November in warm climates. It’s self-cleaning so no deadheading is required for continuous bloom.
Saucy Red Salvia will grow to between 2 and 3 feet in height and width. It’s a great choice for an accent plant, an addition to border and island gardens, mass plantings and containers. Plant it against a boring wall or fence to brighten it up. The flower spikes make an attractive addition to garden bouquets. Butterflies and hummingbirds are attracted to the blossoms and deer tend to leave this plant alone.
Saucy Red Salvia Care
Plant Salvia splendens in full sun to part shade in USDA hardiness zones 9 to 10 in well-drained soils when adding this plant for use as a perennial. It can be grown as an annual between your first and last frost in colder areas. If you’re growing saucy red salvia as a perennial, apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
Saucy Red Salvia Spacing
Space individual plants 1.5 to 2.5 feet apart to create a mass planting. Space plants 3 feet apart to allow room for growth in mixed beds.
