Feature
The Serendipity Alocasia is a beautiful showy plant that will bring the tropics right to your home. It’s no wonder this Alocasia is also known as Black Elephant Ear—its large, heart-shaped leaves resemble Dumbo’s ears. The Serendipity Alocasia beautifully hued leaves are a purplish-green hue on the front and a dark purple on their underside. Meanwhile, the undersides of its leaves feature lime-green stems and veins. This plant can grow from 4 to 6 feet tall, so it is a great showpiece!
Best Locations For Growing Serendipity Alocasia Plant
The Serendipity Alocasia is a beautiful houseplant, well-fitted for the living room, bedroom or bathroom. But if you have children or pets, make sure to keep it out of their reach—it’s toxic if ingested.
Serendipity Alocasia Plant Sunlight Requirements
The Serendipity Alocasia thrives with bright indirect light. Place it in a location that receives about 4-6 hours of bright indirect sunlight daily. It can grow in lower light conditions or fewer hours of indirect light, but will not grow as well. Keep your Alocasia away from direct sunlight, which will burn its leaves.
Serendipity Alocasia Plant Care
This jungle plant is sensitive to cold temperatures below 50 degrees F, and prefers a range between 60-80 degrees. Avoid placing it near a drafty window, exterior door or air conditioner. Alocasias also thrive in humid conditions, so consider placing it near a humidifier or in your shower.
Use a soil mixture that stays evenly moist. Well-draining potting mix or crumbly loam soil will do the job. You can also use an evenly mixed combination of perlite, coarse potting sand and peat.
Watering Serendipity Alocasia Plant
Serendipity Alocasia does not like to be waterlogged, so only water your plant when 3/4 of the soil is dry. Saturate the soil, letting the water run through the pot’s drainage holes.
Feeding Serendipity Alocasia Plant
Regularly feed your Serendipity Alocasia to keep it in optimal growing shape. Dilute a complete liquid fertilizer or fish/seaweed emulsion to 1/2-1/4 strength. Feed once a month in the warmer months.
