The botanically named Philodendron hastatum is more widely known as the Silver Sword Philodendron or quite simply, the Silver Sword plant. With its large and tapering green-to-gray leaves that can grow to 12 inches in length with age, this houseplant really does stand out. Its stout stems can be allowed to trail or be trained vertically up a support, such as a moss pole, and reach more than 6 feet tall. Whether grown as a trailing or climbing plant, the Silver Sword Philodendron likes to be kept warm at a temperature between 65°F - 80°F and away from any cold drafts. Preferring high humidity levels, this plant may benefit from being grown in a bathroom or kitchen, or it can be regularly misted if situated in a drier environment. Dying, or misplaced foliage can be removed by cutting just above a leaf node with sanitized scissors.
