Growing Zones
Fill the tiniest of spaces with a tall, lush, green shrub that needs no pruning and provides interest every season. Stonehenge Skinny® Yew Taxus x media is among one of the few evergreens that tolerates heavy shade as well as full sun. Its foliage is a dense, deep green, with bright green new growth in spring. It reaches a height of 72-96 inches with a width of 12-18 inches. Amazingly, its footprint is only one square foot making it a very useful plant for small spaces.
This columnar yew’s growth habit is fastigiate, which means that its branches slope upward, almost parallel with the stem. It had no known serious insect or disease problems. It is not recommended, however, if you have a serious deer problem because it is not resistant to them. An extremely versatile shrub, use it as a thriller in a container or as a specimen or focal point in your landscape. Plant it in a hedging or foundation where you need a plant that has a narrow habit. It makes a classy addition to formal entryways. Use it in mass plantings. Put it anywhere you need height in small gardens or small spaces.
Stonehenge Skinny® Yew Care
This Taxus is very easy to care for. It prefers just a moderate amount of water and is tolerant of occasional drought. It thrives in alkaline or clay soil that is well drained; poorly drained soils can be damaging.
No pruning is needed. If necessary, you may remove selective branches. It needs no extra care in winter. Just be sure there is adequate drainage in containers.
Note: All yews are poisonous to humans when consumed.
Stonehenge Skinny® Yew Spacing
Space these plants just 12-18 inches apart. When planting in a container, shrubs need a soil depth of 18 inches to 2 feet.
