Strawberry Arrowhead Plant is a beautiful and delicate-looking cultivar of Syngonium podophyllum. This plant only looks delicate with its dusty pink, broad leaves, and thin stems. Strawberry Arrowhead is very low maintenance and thrives on being left alone. Also known as Goosefoot Plant, Elephant Ear Plant, and Nephthytis, Strawberry Arrowhead is an excellent plant for novice houseplant gardeners.
Best Locations For Growing Strawberry Arrowhead Plant
Strawberry Arrowhead will grow best in a warm and humid environment. Bathrooms and kitchens are good, and most have lower light levels to keep the leaves from being bleached or burned by direct sun. Place Strawberry Arrowhead out of the reach of pets. It is toxic to cats and dogs, which may chew on its leaves.
Strawberry Arrowhead Plant Sunlight Requirements
This cultivar of Arrowhead Plant requires a bit more light than other deep-green colored types. Diffused and indirect light is best to keep the leaves their lovely rosy color. If moving this plant outside for the summer, medium to low levels of light are preferred. Direct outside sunlight will quickly burn the leaves.
Strawberry Arrowhead Plant Care
Strawberry Arrowhead should be potted in moisture-rich soil that is also well drained. Use a soil-based potting soil that has vermiculite or perlite added. If possible, use a terracotta pot to help the roots breathe and dry faster than in a plastic pot. Regular pinching back of leggy stems will help Strawberry Arrowhead grow bushy and upright.
Watering Strawberry Arrowhead Plant
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. During the summer months, you may need to water more than once a week. Watering in the winter will be less and maybe only once every 1-2 weeks. Do not let Strawberry Arrowhead dry out completely. Always empty any saucers within 10-15 minutes of watering. Tropical plants do not like their roots sitting in water.
Feeding Strawberry Arrowhead Plant
Only feed this plant during the spring, summer, and fall. Winter is when Strawberry Arrowhead slows growth. A balanced liquid fertilizer for houseplants is perfect. Feed once a month in place of regular watering.
