Feature
The Summer Glory Philodendron is a stunning new hybrid known for its beautifully veined, deep green, and glossy foliage. Leaves emerge in rich bronze before transitioning to a luxurious deep green. This variety is easier to care for than many recent introductions and thrives in average indoor humidity. Tolerating outdoor temperatures down to 40°F (4°C), Summer Glory can elevate covered seating areas, creating an inviting outdoor oasis alongside other hardy tropical plants during summer. This philodendron is a cross between P. gloriosum and P. McColley, specifically bred for nursery cultivation.
Best Locations For Growing Summer Glory Philodendron
Summer Glory thrives in average indoor humidity and temperatures above 60°F. Prune it to maintain a compact shape for tabletop displays, or train its trailing stems for a stunning display as a floor plant. Hanging baskets are also befitting and allow Summer Glory to reach its impressive length of 6 feet or more. Keep in mind that philodendrons are toxic to small pets and children, so handle them with gloves during pruning or repotting.
Summer Glory Sunlight Requirements
Provide bright or medium indirect light for optimal growth. East, west, or north-facing windows are suitable. Avoid bright direct sunlight, as it can fade the deep green leaves and cause scorch marks.
Summer Glory Philodendron Care
Use a lightweight, moisture-retentive indoor potting mix, such as an orchid blend with added perlite and finely shredded bark. Select a pot with ample bottom drainage, like a plastic nursery or orchid pot; avoid terra cotta or unglazed pottery, which may dry the roots too quickly. Repot during peak growth periods in spring or summer to help the plant settle into its new home.
Prune side shoots as needed to maintain a compact shape or train the plant to a vertical support.
Watering Summer Glory Philodendron
Water the plant once or twice a week, allowing only the top 1-2 inches of potting media to dry out between waterings. While average humidity levels are acceptable, misting the leaves daily during winter can help counteract the dryness indoors caused by heating.
Feeding Summer Glory Philodendron
Apply an all-purpose houseplant fertilizer monthly from March to September. Diluted liquid formulations are the fastest-acting and can be easily integrated into your regular watering routine.
