SuperCal® Premium Bordeaux Petchoa (Petunia x Calibrachoa hybrid 'SAKPXC023') boasts large, trumpet-shaped blooms in a luxurious wine-red shade accented by a soft, dark throat. Each flower is perched on a vigorous, mounding form that can reach up to 22 inches tall and trail gracefully in hanging baskets. From mid-spring into autumn, it showers the garden with color without leaving messy residue on your hands. Plus, its self-cleaning nature cuts back on maintenance and saves time for gardeners.
Deer rarely bother SuperCal® Premium Bordeaux Petchoas, and their hybrid lineage provides resilience to heat and rain showers. Originating from a cross between petunias and calibrachoas, Petchoas inherit disease resistance alongside impressive bloom production. This annual thrives in borders, mass plantings, or as an eye-catching “spiller” in mixed containers. In our experience, the blooms bounce back quickly from rain and maintain a fresh look through changing conditions.
SuperCal® Premium Bordeaux Petchoa Care
Plant once night temperatures stay above freezing, and choose a location with well-draining soil of neutral to slightly acidic pH. Provide at least six hours of direct sun for the most robust flowering. Regular watering supports consistent growth, though the roots dislike sitting in soggy conditions. A balanced fertilizer applied monthly encourages abundant buds and healthy foliage.
Trim back leggy stems or faded blooms if you wish to promote branching and fresh growth. Container-grown plants benefit from a light cut in mid-summer to maintain a tidy shape and encourage a late-season flush of color. Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly; avoid leaving the soil consistently saturated. When cooler weather approaches, move pots to a protected spot if you want to extend the blooms, but many gardeners treat petchoas as true annuals.
SuperCal® Premium Bordeaux Petchoa Spacing
Arrange plants about 14-18 inches apart if you’re creating a lively border or mass planting. In containers or hanging baskets, use a pot at least 12 inches wide to allow the root system to develop comfortably.
