The Taunton Spreading Yew is an easy-to-grow evergreen shrub. Also known as Taxus media, this shrub has a dense, branched form. Yew can happily adapt to various conditions, making this shrub a good pick in diverse landscapes.

Yew shrubs make wonderful hedges or foundation plantings. Define a property line, define an outdoor entertaining area, or provide a consistent background for a mixed bed. The Taunton Spreading Yew is drought tolerant, grows in zones 4 through 8, and requires minimal care once acclimated. Rabbits typically leave the foliage alone, ensuring plenty of greenery to enjoy all year.

Taunton Spreading Yew Care

Plant Taunton Spreading Yew in full to partial sun for best performance. It prefers moist and well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH; however this adaptable shrub can handle various conditions. The Taunton Spreading Yew is drought tolerant upon establishment, but grows best with supplemental water during a dry spell. Fertilize in the spring using a plant food high in nitrogen.

Yew shrubs have a nice organic form but can be pruned for a more formal look. Regular pruning is not always necessary, but you may want to trim the plant every few years during the spring to keep it contained. Overgrown plants benefit from a rejuvenating trim.

Taunton Spreading Yew Spacing

Taunton Spreading Yew stands 3 to 4 feet tall and reaches 3 to 5 feet wide at maturity. Space shrubs 3 feet apart to create a dense hedge.
