Trailblazer™ Silver Texas Sage turns hot, dry ground into a soft silver backdrop that looks good even when other shrubs tire. Leucophyllum ‘JBN SC2’ grows 3–5 feet tall and 3–5 feet wide, building a dense, fine-textured mound of fuzzy, blue-green leaves that release a clean, herbal scent when you brush past. The lavender flowers show up in bold bursts from spring through fall, often after shifts in weather, so the plant keeps surprising you. We like to plant it in small drifts where the silver color reads like light in the landscape, even at dusk.

This shrub is built for sun and dry air, and it keeps its shape without constant fuss. Deer usually ignore it, and the flowers bring in bees and butterflies when they open. Use it as a low screen, a foundation anchor, or a repeating shrub on slopes where you need erosion control and don’t want to irrigate heavily. In mixed borders, it offers strong contrast behind bright perennials and grasses.

Trailblazer™ Silver Texas Sage Care

Give Trailblazer™ Silver Texas Sage full sun for the tightest growth and best flowering. Fast drainage is non-negotiable; it performs best in sandy or gravelly soil and tolerates a wide pH range from slightly acidic through alkaline (about 6.0–8.0). Plant it on a slight mound or in a raised area if your soil tends to hold water, setting the root ball a bit high and backfilling firmly. Water regularly during the first growing season while roots expand, then taper off; this shrub prefers drying between deep soakings. Skip fertilizer, as extra nutrients push soft growth that doesn’t match its drought-ready nature.

Prune in late fall or winter to thicken and shape the plant, snipping back the tips of branches rather than shearing hard. In zone 6b, place it out of winter wind and give the root zone a protective mulch layer during the coldest stretches.

Trailblazer™ Silver Texas Sage Spacing

Space plants 3–5 feet apart, depending on whether you want a solid hedge or distinct mounds. For containers, use a very large pot (at least 24 inches wide) only if you can keep it on the dry side and protect it from freezes. Companion options that suit the same sun-and-dry conditions include lantana, purple coneflower, and muhly grass.
