Tropic Snow is one of the showiest Dieffenbachias. The splashes of white variegation are large and random on a deep-green background. This tropical plant is found in the forests of Brazil and the Caribbean and typically grows as an understory plant in dappled sunlight. Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia is a fast-growing upright plant that needs little maintenance to look its best.
Best Locations For Growing Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia
Dieffenbachia makes a good specimen plant. The corner of an office, family room, or bedroom with at least medium light levels is perfect. Pets and children should be kept away from Dieffenbachia. All parts of this plant are poisonous.
Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia Sunlight Requirements
Tropic Snow prefers medium to bright indirect light levels. The variegated leaves will tolerate brighter light than other cultivars that are a darker green. Rotate the pot once every 1-2 weeks to promote straight growth. Dieffenbachia will grow toward the light source no matter how low the lighting. A grow light in the winter can be used if the light is very low in your house.
Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia Care
Use soil-based potting soil with one part of perlite mixed in. Light, loose soil will help the roots dry in between waterings. Keep the humidity levels around Dieffenbachia medium to high with a daily mist of water, or use a portable humidifier. The lower leaves will turn brown and dry out if the humidity levels are low or if the plant is near a drafty door or window. This does not affect the overall growth of the plant, and the dry leaves are easily pruned off.
Watering Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil have dried. Carefully water until liquid comes out of the drainage holes. Empty any excess water from the saucer or cache pot after 10-15 minutes. The number one cause of Dieffenbachia failure is overwatering or letting the plant sit in water.
Feeding Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia
Fertilizing can be done once every 4-6 weeks throughout the year. Use diluted liquid fertilizer formulated for houseplants with a balanced ratio of NPK. Apply fertilizer in place of regular watering.
