Tumaini™ Clematis (Clematis ‘EviGsy151’ PBR) enriches the garden with large, violet-colored flowers accented by deeper stripes down each petal, adding a bright jolt of color from late spring through early fall. Reaching just 3–4 feet high, it’s compact enough for patios or small-space gardens yet floriferous enough to create a real visual impact. Each flower features creamy filaments with dark wine-red anthers, delivering a memorable contrast against the lush green foliage. Ideal for patio containers, trellises, or obelisks, this spectacular bloomer brings a long, colorful season with minimal space requirements.
In addition to its standout flowers, Tumaini™ Clematis offers excellent disease resistance and typically resists deer browsing. This variety hails from the famed Raymond Evison breeding program, known for producing reliable and easy-to-grow Clematis. Its medium-size makes it suitable for borders, containers, or simply brightening a dull wall. Whether grouped with other clematises for a mix of hues or left to shine on its own, Tumaini™ transforms small gardens and urban courtyards into spaces of continuous color.
Tumaini™ Clematis Care
Plant in moist, fertile, well-draining soil, ensuring the crown is set about 2–4 inches below the surface to protect dormant buds. Provide regular watering, especially during the first growing season, and choose a location that receives at least four hours of daily sun (though partial shade is acceptable). A balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer in spring helps maintain vigorous growth and encourages abundant blooms. Cover the roots with a thin layer of mulch or surround them with low-growing plants to keep them cool in hot climates.
Remove old, damaged, or weak stems in late winter or early spring to shape the vine and promote healthy shoots. Light thinning of congested growth can lead to fuller flowering, while container-grown plants may need slightly more trimming to remain tidy. During winter, add a protective mulch layer in colder zones or move containers to a sheltered spot. Shallow, consistent watering helps maintain strong root systems in pots or raised beds.
Tumaini™ Clematis Spacing
For trellis or fence plantings, allow roughly 2 to 3 feet between each vine to accommodate the climbing habit and prevent overcrowding. When used as a feature in a border or container, be sure to provide adequate air circulation by keeping it a foot or more from neighboring plants. If planting in a pot, select a container about 12 to 14 inches in diameter with good drainage to support root development and sustained, showy blooms.
