Similar to an orchid, Velutina Air Plant does not call a traditional pot of soil home. Rather, this remarkable air plant prospers while being attached to any sturdy surface you choose, such as a piece of decorative wood or glass. Consisting of a spiral of silvery, elongated foliage the Velutina Air Plant is a stunner. The foliage colors change around bloom time, transforming from hues of smoky green to vermillion and pale plum. Requiring minimal fuss, this unique plant is perfect for someone with little free time to spare.

Best Locations For Growing Velutina Air Plant

Velutina Air Plant thrives in bright indirect light and temperatures ranging between 70°F to 85°F. It also has a penchant for average to high humidity, so a bathroom might be an excellent choice to maintain this plant. Since this striking air plant is nontoxic to people and pets, you can grow it in any room and not worry about little hands or paws being at risk.

Velutina Air Plant Sunlight Requirements

Velutina Air Plant prefers bright indirect light. Any room with south-facing, west-facing or east-facing windows will suffice; however, during periods of direct light, place this lovely house plant a few feet away from any windows in order to prevent sunburn.

Velutina Air Plant Care

Velutina Air Plant, an epiphyte, must be attached to a sturdy substrate and not soil. Adhere this air plant to the bottom of anything solid such as the bottom of a glass vase, piece of slate, or a shell. Because air is essential to this plant’s ability to thrive, it requires good air circulation. As a result, maintain Velutina Air Plant in receptacles that are open and are exposed to plenty of air.

While Velutina Air Plant requires little to no pruning, dead leaves and exhausted blooms should be trimmed in order to promote growth; prevent disease; and enhance its appearance. Propagation can be done using offsets or seeds.

Watering Velutina Air Plant

You will need to “water” your Velutina Air Plant one to four times per week, depending on the method you choose. We recommend misting it every few days and submerging it once a week in filtered water. This striking house plant prefers average to high humidity levels ranging between 50% to 70%.

Feeding Velutina Air Plant

Once or twice per month during the summer, feed your Velutina Air Plant a balanced water-soluble fertilizer at a quarter-strength; reduce feeding to once per month during the winter.
