Growing Zones
Violet Profusion Salvia is aptly named. The perennial, drought-tolerant plant bursts with violet-purple flower stalks in late spring to early summer. The stalks begin a rosy purple and darken as they mature. The flowers are fragrant and so are the leaves of this sage family member. Deer and rabbits ignore the plants, but hummingbirds, bees and butterflies love their nectar. Salvias can tolerate salt, so they make a practical and pretty low border along sidewalks or driveways.
A rounded clump of warm green foliage forms the base of Violet Profusion Salvia each spring as it grows back after a winter rest. Violet Profusion grows to about 16 inches high and 20 inches wide by summer. The versatile plant works in nearly any landscape and thrives in zones 3 through 8. It can stand on its own in a rock garden or natural design or form a low, violet-colored border to a garden bed. The salvia also can fill around taller container plants.
Violet Profusion Salvia Care
Violet Profusion Salvia performs best with full sun. It needs very little care and can handle drought once established. If summer is drier than normal, you can give the salvia some extra water to ensure full bloom. Just cut back to above the foliage after most blooms fade and you can get another wave of violet profusion. It can grow in nearly any type of soil.
Violet Profusion Salvia Spacing
For a border effect or when planting several Violet Profusion Salvias together, space the plants about 16 to 20 inches apart. Add it in front of taller butterfly-attracting plants in a container.
